I am pretty well aware of millions of posts in which the writers appeal people to stop cursing our Netas and start contributing towards the
development of the nation, so this is not such a post rather its the
opposite of such posts.
At the end of this year I would have spent a quarter of century on earth and 99.999999% percent of that Time has been spent on my Motherland and beloved Indian soil. Though this period is very minute when compared to the vast history of the country but this the longest I have witnessed so I can only account for this. This year India celebrated world's largest democratic elections, which saw 1/6th of the world's population choose its leader for the next 5 years. It wasn't the first time I experienced this phenomenon but this indeed was the first time I took real interest in it.
Though every election affect each and every citizen of India, directly or indirectly, I haven't seen people taking so much interest in it. The main cause, I believe, is the loss of trust on the Indian Politicians. But, this election was different, this time voter card holders had a ray of hope, something to look forward to, this time they had a hero.
On 16th May when the counting of the votes begun, people were stuck on the TV sets/laptops/Computers with the same enthusiasm and anticipation they used to do when Tendulkar used to spread his magic on the cricket ground, cheering every run vote and hoping for more. Once the mandate was clear all we could see on each others face was a glitter of hope and sigh of fulfillment of prayers. India was celebrating the occasion like never before.
This is the first time in my life that I don't hear the popular phases during political discussions :
"are sab neta sale chor hai"
"Kya hoga vote de ke, aaj ye loot raha h kal vo aa jayega"
"Kuch nahi ho sakta is desh ka"
"Lo bhai, gaya desh pani me"
etc....
etc..
rather they have given space to new ones,
"Acche din aane wale hai"
"Ye waise nahi h yaar, ye sabko sudhar dega"
"Aisha hona chahiye neta, pappu jaisa nahi"
Indians are used to getting freebies, cash, alcohol, false promises, their caste/religion fundas but they weren't used to what they got this time : HOPE. Hope of a better tomorrow, Hope of a better India and this has changed everything.
All the very best to every India and all the very best to the New PM.
